Fish still being Exported out of Fukushima

indexWhen word got out that Thailand has been the first country to receive fish imports from Fukushima, the public expressed their concerns. One person complained online comparing “Thais to guinea pigs in labs to test the impact of fish that might have been contaminated”.

Earlier this month, the Independent reported on an investigation that found lethal levels of radiation still in the Fukushima area from the nuclear and radiation leak in 2011. Officials from the Thai FDA have dismissed public concerns assuring that the fish have been tested and comply with the low radiation levels allowed by the FDA.

Secretary General of the FDA, Wanchai, explains that if high radiation levels were found in the fish they would be immediately sent back or destroyed. She also mentions Thailand has yet to have a contamination case for fish from Japan.
