Court Case Rules Sole Custody for Japanese Millionaire Father to 13 Surrogate Babies

baby-208673_960_720Mr. Shigeta was found in his Lat Phrao home in 2014 with babies and accompanying nannies occupying unfurnished rooms. He soon fled Thailand and petitioned for sole custody of the children through courts.

The Central Juvenile and Family Court in Bangkok was in favor of Mr. Shigeta, being a wealthy businessman who could financially provide for the children and had prepared plans for them. The Thai surrogate mothers waived their custody rights.

Following this particular case, Thailand has banned the surrogacy for commercial purposes to foreign clients in Thailand. Mr. Shigeta was able to win his case as he petitioned for the sole custody before the new laws.
