Thailand Prime Minister Addresses False Story of Medical Marijuana Legalization

marijuana-1549805_960_720The rumor of a medical Marijuana farm to be set up in the north was stretched out of news from earlier this month of potential legalization of hemp for medical purposes. There is a difference between the two substances. However, the legalization of either substance is far from being legalized and pilot programs may be in the “early research stages”.

The National Farmers Council responded to the false story as being in favor for the legalization as it would bring in many business opportunities. The Narcotics Suppression Bureau has also reported being in favor as it would “help alleviate the burden” on them.

Thai PM Prayuth Chan-ocha dismissed the story when it came up at a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, saying Thailand had no plans to legalize the plant. The Governor of Sakhon Nakhon, confirmed the statement that there were no plans to cultivate a medical marijuana plant.
