Mr. Suraporn : Sor. Vorapin Gym

J: How long have you been involved in the Boxing business?
S: At least 15 years.

J: Why do you train foreigners?
S: Because my Gym is located at Khao San road and the Banglampoo area and 4-5 years ago tourists became interested in Thai Boxing, and Muay Thai is very popular in Holland, France. Kao-Sarn road is the place for tourists and some of the guidebooks and TV shows have come here to see me and they broadcast about my Gym to the public and tourists. And the tourists who had come here, when they get back to their country, they tell their friends about my gym. They recommend my gym to their friends. Sometimes foreigners walk through or walk past my Gym and some of them were interested and then they come to learn and train Muay Thai.

J: Why are foreigners interested in learning Muay Thai?
S: Many Years ago Muay Thai was not popular like nowadays, they were interested in Tae Kwon Do and Kung Fu more than Muay Thai. But when Mauy-Thai was broadcast to the public it showed how interesting and effective Muay Thai is. Martial Arts such as Tae Kwon Do or Kung Fu can't compare with Muay Thai. Nowadays, there are Thai Boxing Gyms in almost every country in Europe such as France, Holland, Switzerland, Sweden, Australia and also in Japan and they usually empoy retired Thai boxers to be their trainer in their Countries.

J: Is Muay Thai original from Thailand?
S: Yes it is, it is Thai custom, and it is the best of Thai Martial Arts.

J: What's the different between Muay Thai or other from of fighting or other from of Martial Arts?
S: The difference is the way of fighting. Muay Thai is heavier, more exciting, and faster than any other kind of Martial Arts and the weapons of fighting are elbows, fists, knees and legs. Most of foreigners think that Muay Thai is better than any kind of martial Arts and they love to watching and training about Muay Thai so much.

J: How long the most foreigners train in your Gym?
S: Some 3-4 years or 5-6 years. Some foreigners who used to train here go back to their countries and fight for competition and become champions such as many foreigners from France, Newzealand, Switzerland. Our policy is we will send our trainer to be their trainer in those Countries.

J: Do you think it is an advantage that your Gym is located at Kao-sarn road and Banglampoo area?
S: Sor Vorapin gym is the only Boxing Gym around this area. Kao-San road is a comfortable place for the tourists to stay because the cost of living is very cheap and they can find local buses to go everywhere very easily. The important point is that my Gym is trainong Muay Thai for only foreigners, specifically foreigners. We set the program to train Muay Thai.
Morning round start from 7.30-9.30 AM. Evening round start from 15.00-18.00 PM. And we charge service for 300 baht per day, 2000 baht per 1 week, 3500 baht per 2 weeks, 6000 baht per month. Mostly of foreigners will take a week course or month course, if they really interesting about training, foreigners who take a day course, this is because they want to do some exercise that's all.
